Description
Who can resist this antique Louis Marx Merrymaker Mouse Band Tin toy from the 1930s? Riding the mouse-craze of the 1930s that was driven by a certain litigious mouse, the 3 similar looking mice play violin, piano and drums, while the 4th mouse is the crooner of the bunch and conducts the band. The piano is highly decorated with musical and mouse motifs. There is a 5th drumming mouse (Pete Best) who wasn’t part of the original group and has suffered an unfortunate accident and was decapitated and semi-crushed. He’s included as part of the band. Excellent condition with no significant scratches or wear marks. There is some light scratching on the drum head. The colors remain bright and vibrant. The mechanism works, although it is sluggish and could use lubrication. The mice do move on their instruments. Unfortunately, we do not have the box. The toy when fully assembled is 10 inches wide, 9 inches tall, and 5 inches deep. The piano is 6 inches wide, 5 inches tall and 4 inches deep. Note that due to the delicate nature of the toy, I will be partially disassembling it and packing the mice separately. This is being done to ensure maximum protection during shipping. The mice do easily fit back on their various posts, and it only takes a few minutes to reassemble.
